The Lions
Kids Kyokushin Karate
A specialised Kyokushin Karate program for children aged 5 to 10 years (as a guide) - building discipline, courage, and character that lasts a lifetime. OSU.
What Is The Lions Program?
The Lions is a specialised Kyokushin Karate program designed specifically for children. It covers the essential techniques and skills of Kyokushin Karate with step-by-step instruction, play, gamification, revision and movements focusing on strength and agility.
Currently our Little Lions and Young Lions classes are combined for children aged 5 to 10 years (as a guide). Classes are taught by Sempai Lili Costa - a 2nd Dan Kyokushin Black Belt with years of experience coaching children.
Kyokushin Karate is widely regarded as one of the most physically demanding and character-building martial arts available. For children, it is one of the most powerful tools for building discipline, focus, resilience and genuine confidence.
Kyokushin teaches children that hard things are worth doing. That is a lesson that stays with them for life.

What Parents Notice Within Weeks
Kyokushin is one of the most powerful developmental tools available to children. These are the changes parents consistently report - often within the first few sessions.
Structure and self-control built in class carries directly into home and school. Parents notice it fast.
Earned through real challenge - not given. Children who struggle early become the most confident students.
Kyokushin demands total presence. That capacity for focus transfers to school, study, and daily life.
Quiet, grounded confidence that comes from knowing they can handle themselves - without aggression.
Strength, coordination, flexibility and agility built simultaneously. One of the most complete fitness systems for children.
Getting comfortable being uncomfortable. A skill that transfers to every challenge in life - on and off the mat.
The Grading System
Gradings are held three times per year - mid-year and end-of-year. Grading day may be held off-site on a Sunday. Your child is assessed on performance, skills, behaviour, attitude and attendance by the Head Children's Karate Coach. GMA follows the AJKU ranking system. Not passing a grading is not a fail - it is an opportunity to keep building.

Every Parent Asks These
Perfect. The Lions program is designed for complete beginners. Every child starts from the very beginning. No prior experience - in any martial art - is needed or expected.
The children's program is fully age-appropriate. There is no full-contact sparring for young students. Techniques are introduced progressively in a safe, structured environment.
Many of our most confident students were the most hesitant on day one. Sempai Lili has extensive experience with children of all temperaments. There is no pressure - children warm up at their own pace.
OSU (pronounced "os") is the spirit word of Kyokushin - representing patience, perseverance, and respect. Your child will hear it in every class and quickly adopt it as a way of life.
Nothing on the first class - just comfortable clothes and a water bottle. Once enrolled, a GMA karate uniform (gi) is available at GMA at highly reasonable prices.
