Kid’s Karate Program - The Lions

 

The Lions is a specialised children’s Kyokushin Karate program for children 5- 12 years of age. The program covers the essential techniques and skills of Kyokushin Karate with step by step instruction, play and gamification, revision and movements focusing on strength and agility. 

Little Lions

The Little Lions are children aged between 5-7 years. 

Young Lions 

The Young Lions are children aged 8-12 years.

Please note that the age ranges are to be considered a guide. The Head Children’s Karate Coach will determine the correct placement of an individual child with parent/guardian consultation. Our kid’s class is currently a combined class with the intention to split the class when it becomes too full.

Gradings

Gradings are regular check points or goals that provide an opportunity for your child to have their progress carefully checked. If enough progress in performance, skills demonstration, behaviour, attitude and attendance is deemed to be satisfactory by the Head Children’s Coach, your child will receive a stripe or next belt. If your child were not to pass an individual grading, it is not considered a fail. It is an opportunity to address behaviour, attendance or skill repetition, as an example.

Gradings will be undertaken mid-year and end-of-year. Each candidate will be selected to participate in the grading day which may be held off-site on a Sunday. Given that there are two Kyokushin Karate classes per week, we anticipate that the children will be familiar with the required skills to be performed at the grading. Note that this is a different schedule to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

At GMA, we follow the ranking system as outlined by AJKU seen in the image below.

Gradings and ranks provide continuous goals to strive for, BJJ and Kyokushin Karate are considered two of the more challenging martial arts, not only for the skills required but also the discipline and dedication required from the student to achieve the ultimate goal of a black belt.
